Working with local schools

Working with local schools

It was a pleasure to welcome 20 Year 5 pupils and their teachers from George Spicer Primary School to the park recently.  They are taking part in a joint project with Kingsmead School. The plan is to research and design eight new information and directional signs to the wildlife garden and build a new sensory area. We want more people to use the wildlife garden and benefit from this peaceful haven.

These collaborative projects – like the one we did with the shelter murals a couple of years ago – are very popular with the children. They were so excited to be taking part and they worked hard spotting various types of wildlife and identifying potential sites for the signs. We discovered lots of interesting mini beasts under decaying wood, marvelled at the various fungi and spotted lots of flowers still in bloom for the pollinators.

Kingsmead pupils will be visiting after half term and then the pupils from both schools will get together for a two hour workshop in early December. We have some funding for this project but need more. Please consider sponsoring one of our wildlife garden signs to help us out ?
